This recipe is easy enough to make in just a few minutes and you’ll be sure to get plenty of compliments on it!

Ingredients

For the pudding layer:

  • 1 (3.5-ounce) package instant chocolate pudding mix
  • 1 1/2 cups cold milk
  • 1/4 cup sour cream
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream

For the cake layer:
  • 1 (8-ounce) package angel food cake mix
  • 1/2 cup water

For the ganache layer:
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup semisweet chocolate chips

Instructions

1. Begin by making the pudding layer. In a large bowl, whisk together the pudding mix, milk, sour cream, and heavy cream. Whisk for about 2 minutes, or until the mixture is smooth and thick. Set aside.

2. For the cake layer, preheat the oven to 350°F. Grease an 8x8-inch baking dish. In a medium bowl, combine the angel food cake mix and water. Stir until just combined. Pour the batter into the prepared baking dish and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the cake is golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Allow the cake to cool completely before using.

3. For the ganache layer, in a small saucepan over medium-low heat, bring the cream to a simmer. Remove the pan from the heat and add the chocolate chips. Let the mixture sit for 2 minutes and then whisk until the chocolate is melted and the mixture is smooth. Set aside.

4. To assemble the trifle, place half of the cake cubes in the bottom of a trifle dish. Pour the pudding over the cake and spread it out evenly. Add the remaining cake cubes, followed by the ganache. Cover the trifle dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 2 hours before serving.

Notes

This trifle will keep for up to 3 days in the refrigerator. To make the trifle look extra special, sprinkle some chopped nuts or mini chocolate chips over the top before serving.
