Ingredients

• 1/2 cup (115 g) butter, melted
• 1 cup (200 g) granulated sugar
• 1/4 cup (50 g) brown sugar
• 3/4 cup (90 g) all-purpose flour
• 3/4 cup (75 g) cocoa powder
• 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
• 1/4 teaspoon salt
• 1/2 cup (120 ml) milk
• 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
• 1/2 cup (90 g) semi-sweet chocolate chips
• 1/2 cup (80 g) chopped walnuts (optional)

Instructions

1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease an 8-inch (20 cm) square baking pan and set aside.
2. In a large bowl, mix together melted butter and sugars until well combined.
3. In a separate bowl, sift together flour, cocoa powder, baking powder and salt. Add to the butter mixture and mix until well combined.
4. Add milk and vanilla extract and mix until combined. Fold in chocolate chips and walnuts (if using).
5. Pour batter into the prepared pan and spread evenly. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Let cool before cutting into squares.

Notes

• For a vegan version, substitute the butter with vegan butter or margarine and use almond milk or soy milk instead of cow’s milk.
• For a gluten-free version, substitute all-purpose flour with gluten-free flour blend.
• Store brownies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
