Chocolate trifle is a classic dessert that consists of layers of cake, pudding, and whipped cream. It is a delicious way to end a meal and is sure to please your guests. Ingredients

For the cake layer:

  • 1 package chocolate cake mix
  • 3 eggs
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 cup water

For the pudding layer:
  • 1 package instant chocolate pudding mix
  • 2 cups cold milk

For the topping:
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 3 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

Instructions

1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease and flour a 9x13 inch baking pan.

2. In a large bowl, mix together cake mix, eggs, oil and water. Beat with an electric mixer until smooth. Pour batter into prepared pan.

3. Bake in preheated oven for 30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean. Allow cake to cool.

4. Once cake is cool, cut it into cubes. Place half of the cubes in the bottom of a trifle bowl.

5. In a medium bowl, whisk together pudding mix and milk until thick. Pour pudding over the cake cubes in the trifle bowl.

6. Top the pudding layer with the remaining cake cubes.

7. In a small saucepan, heat cream and sugar over low heat until sugar is dissolved. Remove from heat and add in chocolate chips. Stir until melted and smooth.

8. Pour the chocolate ganache over the top of the trifle and spread evenly.

9. Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 2 hours before serving.

Notes

This trifle can be made ahead of time and stored in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.
