Ingredients

3 cups all-purpose flour

2 teaspoons baking powder

1 teaspoon baking soda

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/2 cup butter, softened

1 1/2 cups white sugar

2 eggs, room temperature

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 cup mashed ripe bananas

1/2 cup plain Greek yogurt

1/2 cup cocoa powder

1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

1/2 cup chopped walnuts (optional)

Instructions

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Grease and flour a 9-inch round cake pan.

In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.

In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar. Beat in the eggs one at a time. Add the vanilla, bananas, and yogurt and mix until combined. Gradually add in the dry ingredients and mix until just combined. Stir in the cocoa powder, chocolate chips, and walnuts (if using).

Pour the batter into the prepared pan and bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean. Allow the cake to cool before frosting.

Notes

You can substitute the Greek yogurt for sour cream or even applesauce if desired. You can also use any type of chocolate chips that you prefer. If you don’t have walnuts, you can omit them or use any other type of nut that you like.
