Ingredients

2 cups all-purpose flour

1 cup cocoa powder

1 teaspoon baking powder

1 teaspoon baking soda

1/2 cup sugar

1/2 cup butter, melted

2 eggs

1 cup buttermilk

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Grease and flour a 9-inch cake pan and set aside.

2. In a medium bowl, sift together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and baking soda. Set aside.

3. In a large bowl, cream together the sugar and butter until light and fluffy. Add the eggs one at a time and beat until fully incorporated.

4. Add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and mix until just combined. Add the buttermilk and vanilla extract and mix until fully incorporated.

5. Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

6. Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring to a cooling rack.

Notes

This recipe can be easily halved to make an 8-inch cake. The baking time will need to be adjusted accordingly. If you want to make a smaller cake, you can use an 8-inch cake pan and adjust the baking time accordingly. If you want to make a larger cake, you can double the recipe and use a 12-inch cake pan.
