Ingredients

For the cupcakes:

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup milk

For the frosting:

  • 1/2 cup butter, softened
  • 1/4 cup cocoa powder
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 tablespoons milk

Instructions

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Line a muffin pan with cupcake liners and set aside.

In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.

In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add the eggs, one at a time, and mix until combined. Add the vanilla extract and mix until combined.

Add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients in three batches, mixing until just combined after each addition. Fold in the chocolate chips.

Fill each cupcake liner about 3/4 of the way full and bake for 18-20 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Allow the cupcakes to cool before adding the frosting.

For the frosting, cream together the butter and cocoa powder until light and fluffy. Slowly add the powdered sugar, one cup at a time, and mix until combined. Add the vanilla extract and milk and mix until light and fluffy. Pipe the frosting onto the cupcakes and enjoy!
