Ingredients

For the Cake:

2 cups all-purpose flour

3/4 cup cocoa powder

1 teaspoon baking powder

1 teaspoon baking soda

1/2 teaspoon salt

1 cup butter, softened

1 1/2 cups sugar

3 eggs

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1/2 cup milk

1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

For the Glaze:

1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

1/4 cup butter

2 tablespoons milk

1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease and flour a 9 inch round cake pan.

In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.

In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract. Beat in the flour mixture alternately with the milk, mixing just until incorporated. Fold in the chocolate chips. Pour the batter into the prepared pan.

Bake for 30 to 35 minutes in the preheated oven, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean. Allow cake to cool in pan for 10 minutes, then turn out onto a wire rack and cool completely.

To make the glaze, melt the chocolate chips, butter, and milk in a double boiler or in the microwave. Stir in the vanilla extract. Pour over cooled cake.

Enjoy!

Notes

For a more intense chocolate flavor, use dark cocoa powder instead of regular cocoa powder. You can also add a teaspoon of espresso powder for a mocha flavor.
