Description
A chocolate croissant is a type of pastry made with layers of light and flaky puff pastry dough filled with a rich chocolate filling. This classic French pastry is a great way to start the day, or a delicious treat for any time of day. It is a quick and easy recipe that anyone can make with simple ingredients.
Ingredients
- 1 sheet of puff pastry, thawed
- 1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
- 1/4 cup heavy cream
- 2 tablespoons butter, melted
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 egg, beaten
- 1 tablespoon water
Instructions
Preheat the oven to 375°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Roll out the puff pastry on a lightly floured surface into a 14x14-inch square. Cut the pastry into 12 equal squares.
In a medium bowl, combine the chocolate chips, cream, butter, sugar, and vanilla extract and microwave in 30-second increments until the chocolate is melted. Stir until smooth.
Spoon 1 tablespoon of the chocolate mixture onto the center of each puff pastry square. Fold the corners of the dough over the chocolate filling and pinch to seal. Place the croissants on the prepared baking sheet.
In a small bowl, whisk together the egg and water. Brush the egg wash over the top of the croissants. Bake for 15-20 minutes, until the croissants are golden brown. Remove from the oven and let cool before serving.
Notes
Make sure to thaw the puff pastry before using it. If the puff pastry is not thawed, it will not puff up properly. You can also use store-bought puff pastry if desired.
You can use any type of chocolate for the filling, including dark, milk, or white chocolate. For a richer flavor, you can use a combination of chocolates.
The croissants are best served warm, but they can also be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
