Ingredients

2 cups all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon baking powder

1/4 teaspoon baking soda

1/2 cup white sugar

1/2 cup butter, melted

1/2 cup buttermilk

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chunks

Instructions

Preheat the oven to 375F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

In a bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and sugar. Add in the melted butter and mix until the mixture is crumbly. Add the buttermilk and vanilla and mix until just combined.

Stir in the chocolate chunks. Using your hands, form the dough into a ball and knead for a few seconds until it forms a smooth dough.

On a lightly floured surface, roll the dough out into a 1/2 inch thick circle. Cut the dough into 8 wedges and place them on the baking sheet. Bake for 15-17 minutes, or until the scones are lightly golden.

Notes

If you don't have buttermilk, you can substitute it with 1/2 cup of milk plus 1 teaspoon of white vinegar or lemon juice. Let the mixture sit for 5 minutes before using.

You can use any type of chocolate you like for this recipe. Try semi-sweet, dark, or even white chocolate chunks.
