Description
Chocolate Biscuit Cake with Golden Syrup is a classic British dessert recipe that is simple to make and delicious to eat. It consists of a mixture of crushed digestives biscuits, butter, and golden syrup, all combined together and then pressed into a cake tin. The biscuit mixture is then topped with melted chocolate. Once the chocolate has set, the cake can be served with a dollop of cream or a scoop of ice cream for an extra indulgent treat. It is the perfect dessert for a special occasion or just when you want something sweet.
This Chocolate Biscuit Cake with Golden Syrup is a no-bake cake recipe, so it’s great for those days when you don’t have time to spend in the kitchen. It’s also a great recipe to get the kids involved in. They’ll love crushing the biscuits, pressing the mixture into the tin, and then decorating the top of the cake with melted chocolate. This is a great way to get them involved in the kitchen and to teach them about cooking and baking.
Ingredients
- 200g digestives biscuits
- 125g butter
- 3 tablespoons golden syrup
- 200g milk chocolate
Instructions
1. Begin by crushing the digestives biscuits. You can do this by putting them in a plastic bag and using a rolling pin to crush them. Alternatively, you can pulse them in a food processor until they are finely crushed.
2. Place the crushed biscuits into a bowl and add the butter and golden syrup. Mix everything together until it is combined.
3. Grease a 20cm cake tin with butter and line the bottom and sides with baking paper. Then spoon the biscuit mixture into the tin and press down firmly.
4. Place the tin in the fridge for at least 1 hour to set the biscuit mixture.
5. Break the chocolate into small pieces and place them in a bowl. Then place the bowl over a saucepan of simmering water and stir until the chocolate has melted. Pour the melted chocolate over the biscuit mixture in the cake tin and spread it evenly.
6. Place the tin back in the fridge and leave it to set for at least 1 hour.
7. Once the chocolate has set, remove the cake from the tin and peel away the baking paper. Place the cake onto a plate or serving dish and serve.
Notes
If you don’t have digestives biscuits, you can use any other type of biscuit. You could also add dried fruit such as raisins or cranberries for an extra fruity flavour.
You can use any type of chocolate for the topping, but milk chocolate works best. Dark or white chocolate would also work well.
