You can enjoy this treat with a cup of coffee or a glass of cold milk.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup butter, softened
  • 1 cup brown sugar, firmly packed
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup chopped pecans

Instructions

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Grease a 9-inch square baking pan with butter or non-stick cooking spray.

In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.

In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add the eggs one at a time, beating after each addition. Add the vanilla extract and mix until well combined.

Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and mix until just combined. Fold in the chocolate chips and pecans.

Spread the batter into the prepared pan. Bake for 25-30 minutes, until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Allow the pan to cool before cutting into squares.

Notes

For a richer flavor, use dark chocolate chips instead of semisweet. You can also use white chocolate chips or a combination of different types of chocolate chips.

If you prefer a more intense pecan flavor, you can increase the amount of pecans to 1 cup. You can also use chopped walnuts or almonds instead of pecans.

For a sweeter treat, you can drizzle melted chocolate over the top of the cooled squares.
