  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup cocoa powder
  • 1/2 cup butter, melted
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 1/2 cup dark chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup chocolate liqueur

For the glaze:
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1/4 cup cocoa powder
  • 2 tablespoons heavy cream
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 cups confectioners’ sugar
  • 2 tablespoons chocolate liqueur

Instructions

Preheat the oven to 350°F (177°C). Grease and lightly flour a 9-inch round cake pan.

In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and cocoa powder. Set aside.

In the bowl of a stand mixer, beat together the melted butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Beat in the vanilla extract.

Gradually add the flour mixture to the butter mixture, alternating with the buttermilk. Beat until just combined. Stir in the dark chocolate chips and chocolate liqueur.

Pour the batter into the prepared pan and bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes before turning out onto a wire rack to cool completely.

To make the glaze, melt the butter in a saucepan over low heat. Add the cocoa powder and whisk until combined. Add the heavy cream and whisk until combined. Remove from the heat and stir in the vanilla extract. Slowly add the confectioners’ sugar, whisking until smooth. Stir in the chocolate liqueur.

Pour the glaze over the cooled cake. Allow the glaze to set before serving. Enjoy!
