Ingredients
For the Cake:
- 1 kg all-purpose flour
- 2 cups granulated sugar

- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
Instructions
To make the cake: Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Add in the oil, vanilla, and cocoa powder and mix until combined. Slowly add in the hot water and mix until the batter is smooth. Divide the batter evenly between the prepared pans and bake for 25 to 30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
To make the filling: In a medium saucepan, heat the cream until it is just about to boil. Remove from the heat and add in the chocolate chips, butter, vanilla, and salt. Stir until the mixture is smooth and creamy. Allow the mixture to cool to room temperature before using.
To assemble the cake: Place one of the cake layers onto a serving plate. Spread the chocolate truffle filling over the top of the cake. Place the other cake layer on top of the filling. To make the ganache topping, heat the cream until it is just about to boil. Remove from the heat and add in the chocolate chips. Stir until the mixture is smooth and creamy. Allow the mixture to cool for a few minutes before pouring over the top of the cake. Allow the cake to cool completely before serving.
Notes
If you’d like to make the cake a little sweeter, you can add in a few tablespoons of powdered sugar to the ganache topping. You can also add in different types of chocolate chips for different flavors. For a deeper chocolate flavor, you can use dark or bittersweet chocolate chips.
