Description

Chocolate fudge brownies are a classic dessert that never gets old. It's a simple, easy-to-make recipe that requires only a few ingredients. These brownies are rich, gooey and incredibly chocolatey. The combination of dark chocolate and cocoa powder gives these brownies an intense flavour. The addition of nuts and dried fruit, like raisins, creates a delicious texture. This recipe from BBC delivers a classic chocolate fudge brownie that is sure to please.

Ingredients

The ingredients you will need for this recipe are: 225 grams of dark chocolate, 225 grams of butter, 3 eggs, 275 grams of caster sugar, 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract, 85 grams of plain flour, 40 grams of cocoa powder, and a pinch of salt. You can also add any extra ingredients like nuts, dried fruit, or chocolate chips.

Instructions

Begin by preheating your oven to 180°C. Grease and line an 8-inch square baking tin with greaseproof paper. Place the butter and dark chocolate in a heatproof bowl and melt over a pan of simmering water. Alternatively, you can melt them in the microwave in short bursts of 30-second intervals. Stir until smooth and all the chocolate has melted.

In a separate bowl, whisk together the eggs, sugar, and vanilla extract until light and creamy. Gently fold in the melted chocolate and butter mixture. Sift in the flour, cocoa powder, and salt, and fold everything together until just combined. Do not over-mix.

Pour the brownie mixture into your prepared tin and spread out evenly. Bake for 25-30 minutes until a skewer inserted into the centre comes out with a few moist crumbs attached. Allow to cool in the tin before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely. Cut into squares and serve.

Notes

These brownies are best served warm but can be stored in an airtight container and enjoyed for up to 4 days. If you are adding any extra ingredients, like nuts or dried fruit, mix them into the batter before pouring into the tin. This recipe can also be baked in a 9x13-inch tin for a thicker, fudgier brownie.
